I've just had this on my 2018 Grandland X. Started with "Engine Fault requires repair" each time i drove the car, Which the diagnostics machine didn't pick up so they put it down to a software update required. Then i started getting "Engine oil Fault Stop the Car". on the 2nd trip armed with that knowledge they said Vauxhall accept it is a known flaw that pieces of the timing belt break off and effect the oil pump, so they are going to change the timing belt. They advised the car must not be driven, and they are going to have the car in for a week! If you get this make sure thy take it in

ASAP and don't let them fob youh off.

This has happened to me so on Saturday 18th oil preasure fault came up called break down service car was towed to the garage the Aa put a big yellow sticker on the steering wheel do not start car possible wet belt/oil pump issue spoke to the garage who said we had to drive the car to find out what is wrong with it even though sticker was on it
They couldn't find any thing then today I'm told oh the wet belt shredded with bits going into the oil pump sump it's in warranty still but there not sure that warranty will pay for it not had the car a year yet and only 41000 miles on the clock they also will not provide a curtesy car the company I work for have told me they will have to let me go as I'm not able to get to work

Is there supposed to be something in the massive gap between your "18th Feb" and post you have quoted?

Hi..new to the forum... I am having the same problem with my 68 plate Grandland x , as the wet belt has frayed blocking the slump I believe.
I need to understand what actions I need to take next. As currently I am left without a vehicle... Any responses would be greatly appreciated.
Same problem here! The AA did a Diagnostic as did my mechanic. but have to pay for a Vauxhall one now. I got the car towed to Vauxhall yesterday. fingers crossed. I wish I was warned about this problem before I bought the car.

Hi you shouldn't not be paying as it is a common fault in these vehicles. See attached documentation you can use. I did and Vauxhall are covering thr fully costs. Good Luck

Ford do it on their Ecoboost petrol engines , supposed to make the belt last longer.
I work on contract for a Ford Main agent, and recover loads of ecobangs as they are now known, 60 to 80k they can go without warning, or throw up the low oil pressure warning at far less.

The only answer is pull the sump at every service and change the belt for the latest compound

The 1,5 and 2.0 diesel is shite too, lucky if you pass 100k. They get the oil analysed if you have a warranty claim, never miss a service.

Unless they have a company car, few employees drive a Ford lol.

I believe Peugeot have gone back to a chain on the 1.2 puretech, or whatever it is called.

Hi, I have a grandland 2018 and had a recall letter. Very long story but have had the wet belt changed. They9 wouldn't give me a full list!

I'm now trying to research future issues, is this likely to happen again? Or should I sell while I hopefully can? I'm a single mum with two little ones so need a reliable car and won't be able to afford huge repair bills. Does anyone have any advice?

Thanks

If the belt has been changed for the latest spec one, then the car should be good for at least another 25,000 miles.
Just make sure it gets the correct servicing using the correct oil.

Thank you. It's so hard to know what to do for the best. I suppose if I keep having a regular service it should be OK. I'm not 100% sure what the have done. This was all I was given.
its not a diesel either. 33000 miles.

It looks as if they changed the timing belt & vacuum pump, with a number of smaller parts. And new oil & filter.
As I said previously, should be good for at least another 25,000 miles, maybe quite a bit more!

We’ve just had the exact same thing happen to our Grandland X 2019 plate with 30,000 on the clock; bought from new with a full service history with a service plan at the dealership. They had the car for a week and paid for all repairs and rental car, but charged us £180 for diagnostic test, even when we told them that it is known fault re wet belt etc and they should’ve known when servicing it??!! We think it’s pretty unfair and unreasonable that they expect us to pay for the diagnostic test due to the fact it’s a manufactures fault; anyone else had to pay for the diagnostic test?

If they replaced the engine for you, then you have done well, in my opinion!
I would be happy to only be having to pay ÂŁ180, instead of a good few thousand!

Unless you change the belt, your 200 pound fix is a bkow up waiting to happen, a short term fix, your belt is still defrading putting crap into your oil.

As these engines seem far worse then Ford Ecoboost, they last until around 70k usually, these things are going at 30k?

I have the same issue with my 2018 grandland X 1.2 petrol. Registered 2018 so out of warranty obviously. My local mechanic told me is the timing belt that is causing that, but unfortunately he doesn’t have the tool to open the engine to get access to the timing belt, so I took it the dealership for it to be changed, it cost me £600, on my way from the dealership to my destination it happened twice and I had to stop and I ended up in bus lane which waiting for my ticket. Are you guys sure that this problem can be repaired has anyone had this fixed and how much was it ? Because I have already spent £600. Going to vauxhall dealership again will be too much for me , Someone was saying that Vauxhall are aware of the problem if so, why can’t they recall for all 2018 Grand land X number plate to resolve the problem, or they are waiting for someone to take them to court before they take action.
