Hi all,

when car is running I have the oil light on dash flickering. When accelerate seems light goes of, when foot of pedal oil light comes back and flickering, never stay on only flickering. Checked oil level all seems fine, no leak, no loose of oil, no mark.

Anyone came accross similiar flickering oil light on dash??Many Thanks

Is it the RED Oil PRESSURE light or the YELLOW Oil LEVEL light?

As Fred says, it could be a faulty pressure switch or possibly debris blocking the sensor. It could also be a bad connection or broken wire to the switch.

That's the good bit.

It wouldn't be right not to give the bad possibility too...

If the oil pressure genuinely is low, there is a serious risk of major damage to the engine.
Unless you can prove the switch or wiring is faulty quickly, you need to get the pressure independently tested ASAP.
I don't know exactly what options there are for true pressure measuring, so consult you local (trusted) mechanic or dealer.

Hi,

My car has the 2.8 and had the oil light coming on at start up and when floored.
Did and oil and filter change, still came on.
Just had switch replaced and it seems to have cured the problem.
Hope yours is the switch and not the pump. Does the engine sound tappy on tick over?
On my engine the switch is a horrible job and cost me ÂŁ200.

Hmm...thanks for advice guy's. I have now some starting point to work my way up to identify problem. Oil&filter change I think number 1 to do then wire check ,then pressure test. Where do I find oil pressure switch ? Do you have a diagramm to locate? Thank you

I believe to have a pressure test they have to remove the switch and plug in a gauge. So have them get a switch ready if the pressure is ok then they can do the replacement at the same time. My engine is in a different place to yours. Was really difficult for the garage to do.
Hope all goes well.

Thanks! I got sorted flickering oil pressure light on dash! Would not belive but discovered that the egr valve has been blanked! I bought car like that. Removed blanking plate, cleaned up egr properly put it back on and magic, flickering oil pressure light has dissapeared!! I cant think of how this to connect but seems cured problem. There was also returning spanner light, engine management, flickering oil pressure light all gone! many thanks all

well, it was early to dance on top of table, Fred, unfortunatly oil pressure light came back on.
Since cleaned egr and removed blanking plate, cleared comp and resetted ecu (by disconecting battery forr couple of days). Today I was checking for those vacum pipes and connectors, intake and hoses for turbo looking for leak could couse other fault (turbo whistle at certain rpm range). Put it all back together, started up and the oil pressure light came back on. However, before it was flickering when engine running then went off when put foot on pedal to accelerate. Now, iit seems stays on not flickering when stationary, then goes off when drive. Once revs drops comes back on steady. I do like challenges but this one seems posessed by ghooosssttt. Also have fault code p1110 intermittent

That was done cheap as my uncle works there. They had to remove the air con pipes, then was difficult to get a spanner on the switch as of its tight location. Then re gas the air con. Switch itself was ÂŁ30 I think. My engine bay is so crambed, they could of placed it in an easier location.
