Hello all, this is my first post and last resort in trying to get to the bottom of my ongoing, relentless, continuous, unabating issues with my Saab. I've owned it since January of this year and it's been in the garage at least once a month with what I assume are interrelated issues, however the garage are now rapidly running out of ideas (I can sense this) and so am I....

Below is a breakdown of the symptoms I am experiencing, any codes I have found and then below the parts changed/work carried out so far:

Poor starting - white/blue tinged smoke upon startup, acrid smell. Cured in part by repeating glow plug warm up process, but occasionally get water in fuel warning on HUD and/or ABS malfunction warning.
Stutter/Hesitation/Misfire between 1500-2000rpm on very light throttle in lower gears, not noticeable if gunning it.
Inability to regen...ever, EML light always comes on.
When boosting hard in 5th gear (spirited driving), boost cut and then EML, which then clears after a few starts.
NEW - sometimes boost occurs in stages or surges
NEW - EML light when boosting under load regardless of where, generally in higher gears, seems to be load related, ok if going downhill for example.
LATEST - If I even think about going anywhere near a motorway EML comes on with Limp mode
Codes - Now always getting P1901, but also had P0900 and consistently P2279 pretty much since March time.

My problems have appeared to be very similar to the guy posting here (sorry for advertisement of competitor forum...) apart from the 'NEW' problems above, my frustrations also mirror his, with garages and mechanics.

Since owning it's had replaced, Fuel rail, EGR (twice), MAF and MAP swapped just in case. DPF cleaned twice as a result of not being able to regen. Actuator/Turbo checked, swirl flaps checked, TB checked, Vac lines checked and intercooler checked..I think.

It's been checked front to back in terms of air system countless times by the garage who can find nothing really out of order. Along with this it's been Tech2'd more times than I can count and again the computer doesn't suggest that there's anything wrong with sensor values etc...

Sorry for the lengthy post all, but it's had quite a history...as you can see...

Happy to answer any further question to help provide context for any ideas for resolution. Your help could be life saving....really..

Hi there, I'll admit that last one was a from memory guess...clearly I was massively out...

It's one of the old 01's I think, can't remember though. Many thanks for the post, it seems that it's DPF related then, perhaps the garage have neglected to check the state of the pipes leading to the DPF sensor.....

I would have guessed that they had but couldn't be sure, the way they operate nothing would surprise me...I'll mention it to them.

They are now staying with the DPF issue but they seem to be thinking it's a broken or severley blocked core, so they're going to swap it out for another item to see if that makes a difference....fingers crossed.

Do most/all of the symptoms above occur when those codes are being thrown or am I likely to still be encountering issues even after the DPF is sorted, any ideas?

Ok, it's good to have a second opinion, thanks.

Based on this 9 month debacle I'm thinking of having a delete anyway, just want to be sure I'm not going to be spending out on a delete just to find that there's more afoot here.

Do you know of anywhere I might be able to get a knackered DPF (other than mine) that I can knock out the internals and use, so I can keep mine just in case it's actually ok?

Not sure, it's in again this weekend so we'll see what they say, the garage are convinced it's the DPF, I'm sure they've checked the BPR and or changed it out for a second hand spare...but who knows, I'm not in there with them when they do this unfortunately.

I'll post up here if/when they ever find/correct the problem. But not overly optimistic.

Thanks for the info all.

FYI all, saga concluded.

DPF was indeed at fault, perhaps a collapsed core or something but they have replaced the DPF and now there are no EML episodes, it boosts fine etc etc. So happy with that.

The early morning starting has become very difficult now though unfortunately, so I'm guessing it's triggered another issues somewhere, so I'll be having it back in again to get that sorted.

But thought I'd post the resolution anyway.

Is there anything I can check to see what might be causing the poor starting in the morning, before I hand the keys right back to them?

No smoke now just needs a lot of cranking and then struggles for a few seconds after catching, I also prime the ignition twice before I even attempt to start it, otherwise it would never start.....seems like fuel line priming issues to me?
