Rear speakers mysteriously silent

Hi

Further adventures with this newly acquired Corsa. I noticed that although there are rear speaker grilles - and having shone a torch through the holes I can see the cones of the speakers - and the radio (a CD30 MP3) has a 'fader' option in the settings, the speakers remain stubbornly silent. It seems a bit odd that they would both pack up simultaneously?

It would seem a bit odd for Vauxhall to go to the trouble of putting speakers in, and then not hooking them up. Any ideas why they don't work?

Thanks

Just hitting you with an idea to start, I see you have a standard radio, and I see your car is second hand. The reason I say this - to make a sub work on a standard player you split off the 2 back speakers to make a sub work as the blue cable isn't compatible on standard units hence why people split them off loosing back speakers.

Edit - So maybe best to pop the cd player out and check the wires in the back :)

I finally got round to pulling the radio out and having a fiddle with a multimeter. The wires are there, but they're open circuit (between + & - for RL and RR) so no speaker. But does the fact that there are wires there mean that the loom goes all the way to the speaker location, I wonder? And where would you buy the speakers anyway?

Thread revival! I took the side panel off - speakers are there, they read 4 ohms across the terminals. I checked each wire individually, front to back - no continuity on either. Colours match up. No sign of damage on either end, up to the point where they disappear into the loom. Most mysterious. And frustrating.

I can't quite be bothered to start running new wires - it's a bit of a bugger having to to take the seats out!

Don't suppose anyone has any thoughts, before I give up?

Ah thanks, bogbody! Now I feel like a prize plum - I didn't re-read all the messages in this thread, and that one now makes sense; there are some mystery blue wires that I've unearthed (taking the seats out) that run to the boot and end unconnected. I've had a quick search of how to fit a sub (with the idea that that might give me some clues as to how to 'undo' the job), and that supports your idea. More investigation required.
