Dash cam hardwire

Afternoon all,

quick question I’ve bit the bullet and decided to add a dash cam to my zafira b 2009.

I’m trying to figure out how to get the wire to the front engine bay fuse box ?

Any ideas which fuse to piggy back off ?)

Also the instructions say it needs to be earthed is there a known easy access bolt in the fuse box or area to earth too)

or is there something behind the radio that would work to splice in to ?

first time doing this so not up on it all. I did not want to run a car to the lighter socket as it’s always switched live I believe.

Also on the A pillar passenger side does that have an airbag (shamefully not idea) as the wire would route there. Don’t want to foul anything safety related.

Any advice greatly appreciated.

On the Zafira B there is a spare wire in the loom to the cigarette lighter socket that is live with the ignition.
If you remove the panel the socket is mounted in, you will find the spare wire, and you can piggyback the earth to the earth wire on the socket.

Unfortunately the fuse box/rec is under the bonnet and one on the near side rear.
Makes sense! was my thoughts after watching a few videos they all conveniently had a internal fuse box. Wasn't sure which fuse I was going to piggy back off for switched live but a multi meter would've helped there!

The REC is an internal fusebox, its in the boot. Just route the wire from the hardwire kit under the trim down the side of the car, I can't remember which fuse I piggybacked off, but I can check.
If you want to use the UEC under the bonnet, there is a rubber grommet behind the glovebox, you'll need to puncture it with a pointed screwdriver or something, then push the wire through.

You could use the second feed from the 12v accessory socket (cigarette lighter), but be aware, it will only be fused via the socket, not via it's own fuse as it would be using the piggyback from the REC.
