Depending which service plan you go by but it is 90 000 to 100 000 km or 56 000 to 62 000 miles in old money.
All guides and tensioners should be replaced as a matter of course and a check of the torque of the oil pump sprocket nut and its condition should also be done.
Mines changed every 50,000 miles I've got 136,000 miles recorded so far , so in 14,000 miles time mine will be due it's 4th cam belt & its 2nd set of tensioners since I've owned it .
Not on mine , first change @ 50,000 was just belt , next change @ 105,000 was the same , this one will have the rollers & tensioners done , water pump will be spun again but if it's still ok it'll roll on again . My Skoda did 150,000 on its original tensioners & rollers etc .
Hmmm cant compare a VAG unit to anything GM fit Fred, I seriously would be changing the whole bloody lot as a kit and seriously think about the oil pump sprocket at the same time. Seen way too many bearing failures and my share of oil pump sprocket nuts come loose on the Isuzu engines.
It'll all be changed this time around , my mate had his oil pump sprocket come loose on his 1.7 DTI managed to save the engine from any damage luckily .
All cambelt failures on the 1.7 i have seen so far myself 2 were because of the oil pump pulley, 1 because of the bearing of the cambelt guide roller and 1 because of the spring tensioner bearing. So far no failure do to snapped belt, but i changed a lot of belts tho just because were contaminated with engine oil because of the crank seal leaking, but i specified that that does not affect cambelt interval. About the aux belt i can say that the idler roller is more likely to get a worn bearing then the actual tensioner roller; around 150k the idler develops play or rough spin but the tensioner is fine. So far i had not changed a single aux belt tensioner as was no need but idle rollers i ended having at least a couple on stock.
