1.9cdti - Camshaft Sensor Code

Hello Everyone.
So I have been going to work on this Zafira of mine.... Managed to wipe a lot of codes off it. I have so far

Replaced battery
New Throttle Body
New crankshaft Sensor
New Starter Motor
New Diesel Filter

I have not changed the Camshaft sensor as I am not 100% confident to tackle removing the cambelt to be honest. The above code only seems to come up when starting the engine cold. I have wiped it off with opcom and started the engine when its warm and the code does not come up. It only seems to come up when the car is left and the engine is cold. When cold it takes a few more turns of the starter motor then fires up. Then the code is there. Any ideas?

If it's the same Z19DT there was a field remedy for this code and symptom byte, the timing is thrown out due to wear between the crank gear and key,
i can find the f/r if you need it

I have taken the car into a vauxhall main dealers, chap said to me if the woodruff key was worn it would have thrown the timing out and the car wouldn't run at all? I explained to him that the code only comes up when you start the car from cold and the car overcranks slightly to start. Once the car is warm and you start it the cold goes.....He said it sounds like the sensor not working properly then working ok once it warms up....not sure if thats true

If the woodruff has only shifted very slightly it'd still potentially run just fine, as it's in essence possibly less that putting the timing belt a tooth out. Enough to run fine but would still throw a code.

Does anyone know someone near dartford that would do it for me?

I have been to a few places now and when you mention the cambelt has to come off they all seem to be out of there depth. How they run a car repair business I don't!

Well I do actually because I was having an MOT in Mr Clutch last week when a chap walked in and said "I have a customer who needs a cam belt doing can we book her in"

Ah!!! Right!!! That's how you get away with it!!!

Anyone able to recommend me someone who can fix the car??

Sounds like you've got some poor garages & mechanics around your way !!! Although a local car dealer in my town uses my garage to change their cam belts as his mechanics can't do them .

Been having a look with opcom. Code always comes up when engine is cold. With opcom plugged in and engine running when I refresh the page when code is on then the code goes RED and says present with engine running. Once engine is warmed up a bit the code goes completely not there eithier when running. I unplugged the sensor today and turned the key on the ignition and checked with opcom....I get the same code even with the sensor unplugged...

How about the two digit fault code.? Is that different compared with the actual fault against it unplugged.?

Byte 28 is for range/performance, i'd imagine it should revert to 29 (for circuit open) when you unplug it. Both would still report P0340 as the actual DTC.

I am sure it was still showing 28 with it unplugged also...Its deffo an intermittent issue. wondering if a new sensor would sort it...Going in tues to a garage going to have them take the belt off check the timing and change the sensor.

If they're going as far as checking the timing, make sure they actually take that inner crank sprocket off to check it too. It doesn't have to be removed for a normal timing check or belt change, but it's worthwhile to ensure that keyway hasn't slipped.

Ok Nick I will ask them to do that also. This bloody code only comes up when the engine is cold for some reason.....Warm engine no code...Its just when the engine takes a little longer to start when its cold

Plugged the opcom in today. started the car left it plugged in and the code comes up red with the engine running. Whe engine warms up code goes black and can be cleared..hy would it only come up red when cold

So I took it to the garage today who seemed very knowlegable and helpful. They checked the keyway and cam timing and then done live data on the camsensor and it wasn't reading right. The sensor has now been replaced and at the moment every code on the car has gone...
