iirc (and it was a long long time ago ) it needs the sump removing

 

If it's the same as the DTH engine then sump has to come off which makes the job 3 times as long unfortunately, just to get those studs clear

Couldn't they have just simple bolts instead of studs? the whole sump is bolted, why not this part?

 

It's a stupid design. At least you get to wipe out inside your sump

 

Hello, where you removed the bottom nuts from underneath you also need to remove the 2 studs on which the nuts where on... ideally you want 2 new ones, those studs screw in to pump cover. A small mole grips can do the trick to get them out but obviously some damage will incur on the thread of the studs where the nuts used to be. For resealing the pump cover, would be a good idea to drop the bottom oil pan also... and reseal bottom pan after pump and cover fitted. It all depends of your experience not to have leaks afterwards. Note: removing the oil pan you will need new engine oil. Both oil pump cover and oil pan are fixed on with silicone rtv.

 

I removed the whole bottom, since the stumps were not willing to to come loose. And the engine sump needs no wiping Just normal engine oil, no debris, no sludge. After 410.000km that is assuring.
Now what I'm wondering, anything against using bolts instead of the stubs? Making things easier probably prevents the trouble from repeating, #Murphy'sLaw

 

I was chuffed with how clean my sump was as well at about 130k. I just fitted genuine new pump with studs as I thought it would be a long time before needing to touch it again. The new pump had a difference in the casting however which caused a small oil leak, and I was most chuffed to have to do it all over again!!! Thanks Vauxhall

 

Unless you know what your doing i would not modify that... you risk overtighten the bolts and crack pump housing. I spent some time thinking why is like that and if you look at the studs... you realize why...

 

Well, I (sadly) forgot to place the stumps before the sump mounting, so it is bolts now. Was careful with tighting, used permanent flexing glue tah will also lock the bolts, so don't foresee problems any toime soon.
