Windows and locks that open by themselves!

Hello

I regularly hire Vauxhall motors and have driven many cars especially Insignia's and Astra's.

From time to time I've returned to a parked car only to find it has opened all the windows and unlocked the doors all by itself. Sometimes the windows are partially open, other times fully.

On one occasion we had a heavy rain storm and I returned to find all the windows open and the car interior soaked through! It doesn't just happen with older cars either, recently I saw this problem on a 2012 Astra.

Since I've hired so many Vauxhalls and seen this problem a number of times, it's got to the point where it cannot be a coincidence and surely must be a known fault?

Does anyone know a solution please, since the last time this happened the car had also turned off the alarm and unlocked the doors, presenting a real security problem for my belongings inside.

Thanks :)

This sounds really strange, ive owned a few Vauxhalls in a row now, an F reg Senator, a K Reg Cavalier a P reg Vectra B and for the last 4 years an 04 reg Vectra C and ive never had this happen fortunately. The windows and doors can be unlocked and wound down by holding the unlock button on the remote fob, your not sitting on your keys are you lol. It will be interesting to see if anyone else has had the same problem.

The windows in my car have come down by themselves during the months of February to March

Ive found out that within the actual key lock of Vauxhall Insignia's there is a small micro chip that receives the signal to open windows and doors with your key, within winter and when the temperature drops quite low (especially during the night) water can get in the key lock , freeze and expand and set off the doors or mainly windows coming down.

Dont hold me too it but a mechanic mentioned to fix this you have to drill a verry verry small hole in the key lock and it is then filled with a general oil stop to further water getting in and setting this off, this should prevent the problem.

It's part of the comfort closing using the key in the door or your key fob I know you can activate or deactivate it with an opcom or tec2 from a garage but I don't know if that stops the key doing it and as above that would still cause problems , the idea of it so on hot days as you walk to your car you can open all the windows to cool it down and if you leave a window open you only have to hold the lock button to close it in stead of having to open the car put the key in then press the window button is great when it works but not so when you sit on your key fob and not only open the car but all the windows as well so if the car starts with this problem worth trying to deactivate the option all the best

I can understand that definitely, because 9/10 times its probably myself setting it off with the keys in my pocket . On the 3 separate occasions I have locked the front door before bed, locked the car and placed the keys on the mantle place as routine, the next morning ALL windows fully down without any cause or any pressing of any buttons nothing.. At first I thought Comfort settings, but there isn't an option for this, then i thought it was the Body Management Unit and that the settings had to be changed there, the mechanic iv'e spoken says it is fixable for about 30mins-1 hours labour time with doing the previous method mentioned in my comment above. SOOO i will get it done and let you all know the outcome, who knows what will happen .....maybe my boot will start magically opening after ive gone for a full shop in Asda.... i dread to think...
