Afternoon all!
Our Tigra twin top/retractable hard top, does'nt seem to have enough pressure to open the boot. Have'nt dared try the top yet.. The boot will open with assistance & closes the same way. Is there a proceedure to bleed the hydraulic system? or any other ideas?
Many thanks all!

Hello,

I hope all is well - Great to meet another Tigra owner!

I have a Tigra and have been through just about every possible issue you can imagine with the roof and boot, but the good news is, once they are sorted it's a fantastic car and most fixes are quite straightforward. It's really worth investing in an OpCOM diagnostics tool as this can access the Roof ECU which controls the boot and roof and will tell you if there are any faults. There is a lovely chap on this forum @Koicarpkeeper who sells these and they are worth every penny and will save you a fortune in the long run.

Issues with the boot operating slowly are generally caused by 1 of 2 main problems.

The first is low voltage from the battery. If the voltage drops due to a faulty alternator or an aging battery, this can cause the boot to operate slowly. Also if the battery capacity is lower than 55Ah (i think), this can also cause problems as it requires a lot of power to run the roof motor. Generally as long as the alternator is good (showing 14v ish at the battery terminals when the engine is running) then the boot and roof should run at normal speed with the engine on. Turn off AC/Heated seats/heated rear window when operating the boot or roof as these are high draw items.

The second cause, If the voltage and battery is all ok, the issue will likely be with the roof pump. The pump itself is self bleeding and purges air when you operate the roof, so air shouldn't be the issue. If it's leaking fluid and the level or vacuum is low that could be the problem. Sometimes changing the roof oil can help with slow operation, but if the oil in the pump is black, then it is normally caused by the seals in the pump getting old and not generating enough pressure which causes the motor to try to work harder, then overheats and cuts out. You normally find the pump is really hot and the roof oil very black as the degraded seals disintegrate into the oil. I found the best solution was to get a reconditioned pump from a company called roofmotors. https://roofmotors.co.uk/vauxhall/t...hall/tigra/holden-opel-vauxhall-tigra-twintop-roof-pump-2004-2009-93164575.html The chap there was very helpful. He reconditions the pumps himself and knows all there is to know on the pumps and if you send in your old pump they give you a partial refund and validate the warranty for a year. This sorted my roof perfectly and came with replacement oil too. It took about 30 minutes total to remove and fit the new pump as all the hydraulic hoses are numbered and you just need to make sure they are in the correct order.

If you have OpCom then you can plug in and check the roof ECU for any fault codes etc too. And make sure all the sensors are working ok and firing in the right order. Generally if the roof/boot has a fault (aside from low voltage or an ageing pump that needs replacing/reconditioning, the roof and boot will just beep when attempting to operate from the door switch and not open at all.

If the boot is not lifting at all, this can also be caused by the switches and latches being misaligned and not latching or releasing correctly. This video
has everything you need to know on realigning the boot and roof from about the 42 minute mark. It is the official Opel/Vauxhall repair procedure video.

I hope this helps, please let me know if you have any questions at all.

Good Luck!

Thanks for that! Got a couple of scanners here but may well get an OpCOM for future use.
Story so far.. Press boot button, unlocks & can hear pump running. Lid stays still. If you lift the lid while the pump is running, it will open. Once the motor stops the lid will move no further until you press the button again. Same when you lower the lid Press the button & the motor runs but the lid doesnt move. If you give the lid some assistance, it will go down. Have had the pump stop running wile shutting the lid & found that the lid can still be moved manually. Press the button again & close the lid manually, the lock operates & the Hazards give a single flash. So guessing all is good on the electrical side of things. Boot does not activate from door switch & no faults found with snap on or Launch scanners.
I took the pump out of its normal position & placed it so the reservoir was higher than the valve block. This ensured that the intake to the pump would remain submerged & any air in the valve block had a better chance of escaping. I then raised & lowered the boot lid in the same way & every time bubbles where seen going into the reservoir but the lid still would not open or close on its own.
This was all done with a jump pack (12/24v one i use on plant & commercial vehicles) connected to ensure sufficient voltage & amperage to operate the system.
Am thinking faulty pump not producing enough pressure or drawing air in or maybe getting cavitation internally (unlikely but not to be ruled out).
Not dared to try the roof yet.
Bit of a puzzle!
