I have a Citroen C4 Spacetourer that has a 1.5 diesel HDI blue engine (I used to have a vauxhall Zafira which is why I am here). Anyway my engine has the 7mm canshaft chain that this recall refers to. I have not been informed of any recall nor has it come up on the "MY Citroen" app on my phone, in fact the first I have heard of it was on here and that publication that was linked to. I have asked on the Citroen forum that I am on and that post has not been answered yet. I will pop down to the dealer on Monday and ask although my local dealer hasn't been particularly helpful so far. These problems with Stellantis vehicles, and others, will be affecting hundreds of thousands of vehicles. and I cannot see dealers getting to grips with this any time soon even if a recall has been issued. I don't think fitting the chain upgrade kit is a particularly difficult job for a competant mechanic but the sheer volume of vehicles affected could well be. As for the wet belt problem that is a whole different ball game. I think Ford are recalling some of their vehicles over the wet belt debacle.

The chain upgrade kit is a whole kit of parts to upgrade the timing chain from a 7mm width chain to an 8mm width chain. All the sprockets, gear wheels, whatever you want to call them, have to be changed to fit the new width chain. I think there are three sprockets in the kit and a new chain tensioner etc. I haven't got one nor seen one but that is what I would think is in the kit. Certainly the object of the exercise is to upgrade the camshaft chain from a 7mm one to an 8mm one. BUT it would seem that initially Stellantis has said that dealers are only going to do an oil change with a thicker oil and a software update, presumably to lower the power of the engine and the torque. They, apparently, will also issue a "tool" which will "listen" to the engine and determine if the chain is noisy. So there you have it. That's all I know and some of it will be wrong no doubt. I am going to have a word with my local Citroen dealer, because I have a Citroen that has the same engine, but I haven't got round to that yet. I bet though that he wont have heard of any recalls. I have also posted on the French forums about this but only had one reply which directed me to an old post that only mentions the problems with the original chain and nothing about a recall. I also believe that there is fix for the 1.2 petrol engines used in Stellantis vehicles as well. This replaces the wet belt, which is causing havoc in all wet belt engines, with a chain replacement, but this chain upgrade we are talking about in this thread applies to the 1.5 blueHDi diesel engine.

I did and it says there are no recalls for this vehicle BUT I think that information is for historic recalls. There are two written items, one that Valer linked to and one that I linked to so there must be something in the wind. I also know that there is a chain upgrade kit because on the Citroen forum one of the posters has linked to a way to find out if the mod has been done. There are different part number on the rocker box cover and the chain chain cover has a different shape to accomodate the different size of the chain and the rest of the gubbins. It's late now but I will look that information up and post some pics. This is not part of the recall this is what has been done when a vehicle has gone in a normal service and the mech has found the chain to be noisy.

Identify the type of camshaft drive chain fitted to the internal combustion engine.
Locate and note the part number engraved on the camshaft carrier (1) (at "a") using a mirror .
If the part number is 9812647280: The internal combustion engine is fitted with a 7 mm camshaft drive chain: Carry out repair .
If the part number is 9830580480: The internal combustion engine is fitted with a 8 mm camshaft drive chain: The internal combustion engine has been modernised: Do not apply this document; Carry out in-depth fault finding.
N.B. : If the camshaft drive chain is noisy and the internal combustion engine is fitted with an 8 mm camshaft drive chain, send a dealer issue detection incident (DID I)

Repair

Remove the camshaft carrier (1).
Additional parts which must always be replaced: None.

In addition, carrying out this repair requires the following operations to be carried out:
Observe the safety and cleanliness recommendations
Use the products recommended by the manufacturer

The dealers will be overwhelmed with these recalls and nothing will get done. It would be far easier just to buy our vehicles off us all and give us enough money, with some compensation for the inconvenience, to buy something else although it would seem that most, if not all, vehicles these days are a pile of crap one way or another. And yeah I know that wont happen, this country does not have "lemon laws."

With all the recalls on these diesels, plus the Citroen air bag recalls (and I daresay other makes will also be included), Stellantis won't be making much profit in the near future!

I had my combo in today for the recall,Vauxhall that is,when i collected it an hr ago they gave me a print out to say they had visually inspected the chain and it already has a 8 mm chain fitted but do you know what i wouldnt trust the main dealers as far as i could throw them, gave the car a health check and said it required a nearside front wiper blade, they could fit one tomorrow for 76 pounds,i think a bit of skullduggery went on,i drove 3 days ago through a torrential shower and all was fine.

Did you see my post earlier in this thread? There should be a label attached to the head identifying a new chain engine. I admit that that post is referring to a Citroen engine but I would have thought that it would apply to all engines subject to the Stellantis recall. There is another way but I cannot find that at the moment. There is a bulge on the top of the chain cover which isn't there on a non converted engine. If I find that info I will post it.
