common problem, if you wet or spray the fan belt with something like 'rubbercare' the noise would probably stop for a few secs, easy way to test for belt noise anyway. if the noise continues then its obvioulsy something else. if indeed it is belt noise and you have changed it, well, ignore it i guess, or try changing it again, but the engine mount prob would put me off doing that big time. mine is the same. pain in the **** innit

 

Can be something on any of the pulley's its in contact with, bit of dirt etc its the general cause of belt noise if its not slipping

 

i don`t get squeeks,,,i get like a ticking sound when i 1st start myne up,,not sure if thats a worry or not,,,,,you can get a squeek from such a small amount of water,,,,i had a friend once who had a nova,,,his squeeked damn near all the time,,,,because he could`nt afford to replace the belt we just adjusted the tightness,,,,he was fine for like a year when he finally replaced it by a pro mechanic

 

My Cav GSi squeeks and squeals awfully when started from cold, not to mention the clatter of the tappets. Having it running today with the bonnet up made me realise how bad it is.
Lat time it was in a garage (Feb) the mechanic didn't take it for a test run cos it sounded so rough(when he started it)in his opinion! He suggested doing the water pump, as you can hear a bearing noise as well...but here we are in Nov and I've done nothing. Poor car...

 

Could be your timing belt that hasn't been done Rich - I would highly recommend you get that sorted asap or have bent valves on your hands! The pump is easiest done at the same time - ring me about my local mobile VX mechanic, he can sort those fault lights too.
