P2182 - Engine coolant temperature

I have a 2008 Zafira B 1.8 petrol Z18XER engine.

I have SVS fault code come up (car with spanner) light permanently on, I have done the pedal test a 3x codes are showing as stated above, 2 of which relates to Fan Control circuit P0480/ P0481. Where are the relays or fuses for these. Can I just locate these replace to correct the fault?.

Other issue is P2182- Engine coolant temp, is this relating to the coolant sensors, I do believe there is 2x sensors, one on thermostat and the other sensor screwed on the radiator near the drain valve. If I replace these will it correct the fault and clear error code.

I also notice a 3rd sensor looks like a coolant temperature sensor. This is located on the thermostat housing (plastic part) which the thermostat connects to. This sensor is “L” shaped and is held in with a clip. (See image shown) can someone tell me what sensor that is.

Car drives perfectly fine no issues No performance issues has power throughout the revs/gears, no overheating the fan kicks in when it does. Coolant temp is operating average around 93-97c, the fan comes on at 95c.

Only problem is fuel consumption is very poor. Filled up £25 around 22 litres of petrol only managed to get 95 miles out of it, that is with part motorway and urban driving.

Please If anyone can shed some light as I suspect these error codes are effecting MPG also if continues will it effect fuel filter as may get block too much fuel going through?

The fuse that supplies the Fan relays is fuse FE5 30A and FE6 40A which is located in the UEC (engine bay fuse box), this is one of the square slow blow fuses which is number 5 and 6 in this picture...

Code P2182 refers to the sensor in the radiator, do you know what the definition of the code was, or the symptom byte which is the 2 numbers after the code.

Those thermostats have 2 connections, the one in the pic is a temp sensor, the one in the upper housing isn't a sensor but is the map controlled thermostat heater.
As per Andys post the P2182 refers to the rad sensor.

Thanks for the swift replies, that’s perfect just what I needed to know regarding the relays. I will source and find the 2 relays soon try to replace and see if it helps.

I also noticed on the radiator fan there is a fuse resistor attached together at the end of the fan wiring harness. The connector looks similar to the interior fan blower motor resistor, does or can this be replaced?. My radiator fans seems to be working ok, not too certain though as the fault is indicating low speed error which I do not know how to check if low speed is working? but i guess the low speed is controlled via relay?.

P218287 was the full code for the engine coolant temperature if this helps, I have since purchase a sensor also a new thermostat and will replace next week and will update all if the error code has cleared.
I did not however purchased the 3rd sensor which i was not sure about. Now after seeing the replied photo i think i am wrong suggesting the temp sensor is on the thermostat housing, the sensor which i do need to replace is actually the "L" shaped on the plastic housing. I'm going to look for one now and replace all 3 parts, 1x sensor on radiator / 1x thermostat / 1x "L" shaped sensor. will let you know later how i get on with the error codes. Thanks all update soon.

I'm not getting-87 as a valid symptom byte, the options are
P2182 14 Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor Open Or Short Circuit
P2182 13 Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor Circuit Low Voltage
P2182 17 Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor Circuit Range/Performance

I have since changed the Thermostat, and the Coolant sensor on the Radiator, drained old coolant replaced with new Red coolant.
Gone to re-do the pedal test still showing all 3x error code as originally questioning about. The other 2x codes relating to fan control I have not looked into yet but this is just update for P2182 - Engine coolant temperature issue.

So I now need still to replace the other coolant sensor (“L” shaped) as pictured by (Valer) on thermostat plastic housing to see if this helps clear the one of the error code. I have ordered and waiting delivery. Once fitted I do hope this will help clear that code, if not I will have to investigate further and look into the wiring that plugs into the sensors. But one thing at time that way I can pinpoint and discover the exact faulty part/problem.

Sorry the correct error code was P218217 previously I had a typo mistake in earlier message.

I have now replaced both engine coolant sensors, one the radiator and other on thermostat housing, also replaced thermostat.

The Error code still shows P2182-17 with SVS spanner light illuminating. Can’t seem to figure out why? as I replaced all parts necessary relating to the error. Does this error code needs to be cleared via Tech2 or OPcom. Hope anybody can help.

I know this is an old thread but would like to add my info should anyone else be searching with the same problem. I have a Z18XER (Vectra) it had the amber "spanner in car" warning light on. Car seemed to run good. It turned out to be the Thermo Heater (as identified in the photo above).
The big puzzle was, I had a (trusted) garage swap that T Stat housing about 18 months prior, it was a shock to see that part failed. Measure the resistance, I have no definitive value to give but would expect around 10 ohms.
