Hello. I’m not the most clued up person on cars. But I’ve recent purchased an insignia CDTI 2.0 SRI on a 59 plate. It’s done 134k and for the first week it ran really well. All of a sudden. Out of nowhere. It started bellowing out blue smoke. And it absolutely stinks. I recently did a long trip. And the particulate filter warning came on. Thing is when I’m driving along and the blue smoke is coming out. If I cut off the engine. And strike it back up. The blue smoke stops. For about 10-15mins. Then it comes back again. I know it’s not the filter regenerating. Because the smoke on my last car was white. Im not sure if the person who I bought it off has had me or this issue is purely coincidental. Can anyone advise me on what this issue could possibly be? And how much it could potentially cost?
Thanks

Steve

Are you getting a warning on the dash, saying something like "Service Now"?
If you are, it means there is a fault (not that the car needs a service), and you need to get a proper diagnostic done to get any codes that are stored, & rectify any faults.
You say the oil is black, but what was the level like?
If it is high, that can be a sign that the vehicle is trying to regen the DPF.

No. No warnings at all until yesterday when the DPF warning turned on. Which I’m presuming is linked to the blue smoke. It’s odd though. Was on the motorway yesterday. And all I had to do was turn the ignition off while driving and strike it back up and the blue smoke stopped for 10 minutes. I put some DPF cleaner in the tank but that hasn’t done anything. I’ll have to check the levels tomorrow. I’m hoping it is that. Then I’ll just chuck it in for an oil and filter change. But if it isn’t that. I fear the problem could be much worse

Black oil on a diesel is normal.
Just done an oil change on our Touran and can guarantee that will be black within a few hundred miles.

Is it definitely blue smoke? I can’t see any reason why it would happen as it does and then clear for a while after just switching off and on if it was burning oil.
Makes me thing it could be fuel system related, injector issue maybe? Would also account for dpf light if it’s bunging fuel in as it would soot the dpf in no time.
