Are you getting a warning on the dash, saying something like "Service Now"?
If you are, it means there is a fault (not that the car needs a service), and you need to get a proper diagnostic done to get any codes that are stored, & rectify any faults.
You say the oil is black, but what was the level like?
If it is high, that can be a sign that the vehicle is trying to regen the DPF.

Definitely blue smoke. Im hoping it’s just high oil levels.
So you have not checked the oil level properly yet? First thing I would have done when buying the car.
In your first post you were confident that the DPF was not regenerating, but now the warning is on, so it probably was trying to regenerate. These are known for getting diesel in the oil when a regen fails, so correct oil level is critical to prevent engine run away.
You need to get a diagnostic done, using a fully compatible Vauxhall scanner (probably need op-com or Tech2, even most "professional" garage scanners don't talk properly to Vauxhall cars). Then rectify any issues found relating to the engine, as any issue can stop a regen.
Just one other thought, has the car been "chipped", or the DPF removed and not had the engine management modified to suit?
