Hello all, My engine management light came on the other day, only for about ten mins, but would have recorded the fault. The paperclip test produced fault code 31 crankshaft sensor (no signal) I wondered if this was because the engine was not running at the time.
I also had fault 132 EGR Valve (incorrect signal) I suspect that my EGR valve has a blanking plate fitted. I would appreciate members views on these faults. - Thanks

OK Will do, just wanted to make sure it was all right to do that. I also have code 144 no immobiliser - Could that be because the car is not locked? and therefore the immobiliser is not set.

OK done test with motor running, the only code it showed up was 144 immobiliser, which is due to either a sensor, or I do have an immobiliser fault, or it is because the car was not locked and therefore not immobilised.

It has been my experience that a crank sensor problem has been accompanied by an immobiliser fault code. I have no idea why, I have just noticed the 2 together...

By the way, I would be getting a sensor now. A code 19 is what you expect with the engine not running, this is an incorrect position code, understandable with the crank not moving.

A code 31 is completely different. This is where the ecu reads no voltage from the sensor, not a good sign.

Better to have a sensor ready, than have to order one and then wait, after it has failed!
