error code fuel trim bank 1

Any idea what this is and how to fix it?.

engine light came on so ran my cheap diagnostic, said error code p0710 (or something like that), anyway it was "fuel trim bank 1"

before this i filled up with petrol (3/4 tank) and added some cataclean in to it (yes it was for petrol).
a few mins later the engine light came on for fuel trim bank 1.

online it said something about it could be misfire, i have put in new spark plugs as well about 1-2 weeks ago (NGK Plugs).

i was planning on giving car a service in next few days, thats why i put cataclean in tank while it was full, was also going to add injector clean as well, but didnt have any.

anyway any help much appreciated.

I normally check them either with opcom or oscilloscope. It's a shame you don't know anyone with the same engine. You could have swapped the maf.

Where about you from

newport, south wales.

i did turn the code off but after 30 mins on the motorway, it came back on.

have a 2001 Renault megane on my drive thats been sat for 2 years, does that have same engine?

Unfortunately the Renault has a different engine. If you were closer I'd have had a look for you but I'm in the northwest so miles away.

Check the pipe that runs from the throttle body to the tank vent valve on the back of the airbox ain't come off, split or leaking. I've see. These leak causing this code.

i did have a little problem with 1 of the pipes coming of the throttle body and the car judder, shake and engine pop, and then the brake go stiff (as if engine is off and you pump the brake), had to use a Jubilee clip to hold it in place, however i notice the rubber L shape pipe part that connects to the pipe and Throttle body was cracking, but not gone through, i was told this pipe was for unburnt fumes to got to the evaporation canister via the valve on the air filter housing (rubber L shape).

is that the pipe you mean?.
i will go round the car and double check everything, i have a new air filter, so will fit that and make sure casing is on correctly.

Hi there sounds like bank 1 is i think the drivers side if its rear wheel drive, i suppose the back of the engine if its transverse...but is it lean or rich, if the fuel trim is out must be one of the two, i haven't read all the above in all honesty, but i think if its like positive or plus 20 its running weak and trying to pump fuel in, and visa versa...if its lean could be an air leak or restricted injectors etc...if its too rich prob lambda sensor or air filter blocked...that sort of thing...maybe inlet manifold gasket if its lean..good luck from Fred in Essex.

Bank 1 refers to engine configuration and bank 1 is inline 3 or 4 engine when you have a inline engine Anything with bank 2 is a v6,v8 etc

For example

Any engine where all cylinders are arranged in a line are inline engines and a code will only ever be refered to as bank 1.

Any engine that have a "V" configuration such as a v6 or v8 will have 2 banks (cylinder heads) so will have bank 1 and bank 2.

ok that pipe does not have any leaks in it, however the end bit that connects to the throttle body (rubber L Shape connector) was cracked and split, but not right through, i have just thrown some masking tape round it for now as it was the only tape i had to hand, yes i know its not safe due to fire hazard, but car does not drive that far to get that hot :).

any idea what the rubber L shape connector is called? so i can buy a new 1.
i have not drove the car much so engine light has not had time to come back on, however car still slightly shakes when idle, but when i rev it ever so slightly so the needle hardly moves, the shaking stops.

check your maf, if existing on the car is not Siemens/vdo... is most likely your problem and yes is a very expensive part..., regardless if changed 6 months ago unless genuine you where lucky. I discovered the hard way that this maf's on you engine are susceptible to vibrations for example you drop something on it or hit it or drop it... does not have to be hard... the pipe you say about is about 10ÂŁ or was last time when i bought it.

cant find that pipe on ebay or eurocarparts.

might be a scarp yard job, will need to find a scrap yard now lol. (Newport, South wales)

as for MAF, it is a HAAS MAF, which was ÂŁ90, there is also a Delphi/VDO at ÂŁ118, cant afford that sort of money for the next few months. anything else it could be that is much cheaper??, will try and dig out my old MAF, see if that works, dont think it was broken last time, just changed it for the hell of it, the old 1 was a GM.

The hose is either vauxhall steelership or if you find a scrappy that has a car with that engine and is not brittle already. Yes.... i know how much a vdo is i had to buy 3 maf's till i got a vdo one and i was very skeptical that is the problem...this engine is very picky on maf sensors... tho i would expect all to be on the same specs regardless who makes them.

If you need a replacement MAF drop valer a pm (Siemens genuine item).
Scrap yards in newport easy fella just off the SDR road pill side also there's Vaux-Plus in Caerleon.

I'd certainly would not rule the maf out. Haas are not known for their quality when it comes to z18 mafs. As lofty said - if you need a new genuine maf drop valer a message. I think the last one he got for lofty was cheaper than your Haas part by a good margin but please font quote me on that as prices do fluctuate and it was a couple of years ago.

That's it was mate saved me alot of messing about let alone the price. I couldn't believe it and bite is hand off for is so to speak as it's almost double in price when compared via the Internet.

Yes they are both good . The scrappy most things are on shelfs in there Hut. Vaux-Plus are fantastic and always breaking vauxhalls (featured in total vauxhall a few times).
There the only two local places I've ever used ( more so as the others have gone now). @Valer just click on there profile picture and click start a conversation. That easy to send a pm think about it the @Valer should work also mate.

ok cool, not like the others i have been to, 1 i used to go to was you walk in with tools and take the parts off your self, then ask how much he wants for it (usually no less than ÂŁ20 a time), sometimes things like hoses and pipes was free. will take a look though.

That's the old ones by George Street bridge (the good old days lol). I normally phone them first (as I came across cropper looking for a fuel pump for my old mk3 astra a few years ago went all the way out Caerleon.just to be told no they don't have any mk3 bits in stock. Phoned the one by the sdr road and yes got 3 here what fun lol)
