Hi all.
I have a 2003 MK4 Astra 1.6.
Having big engine problems.
Back in time to October last year.....
Going up a big hill coming home and the car suddenly seemed to be struggling to get to 60mph, could barely get past 40 even though the pedal was to the floor! (Usually flies up this hill)
Suddenly the car dropped in power and the engine started shaking, EML came on and I pulled into a layby.
Left the car off for ten minutes and started her up and the shaking had stopped and managed to get home.
Brother plugged his OBDII in and it said cylinder 3 misfire.
We checked the spark plugs and one looked to have blown out, replaced them all.
Coil pack etc looked good, then all was well.....until last few months.
Engine is intermittent with issues, some days runs fine no problems, other days it's a nightmare
Have replaced the EGR valve, coil-pack and cables, but to no avail.
My neighbour borrowed his old workshop computer and it came up with: P0136 O2 sensor 2 circuit voltage high.

Symptoms when playing up include:
Shaking/rough engine when idle or low speeds.
Intermittent slow acceleration, then suddenly picks up
When idle, RPM needle drops below 10 then starts sputtering and usually stalls
Strong smell of petrol when engine starts sputtering at idle stops, lights/roundabouts etc
Engine slows itself down instead of the car gliding on it's on after removing foot from the accelerator, even when going downhill.....like it's braking itself????

All these symptoms are very intermittent, sometimes goes for days with no issues then days with constant issues.

Any ideas???

Cheers.

Sounds like the 02 sensor needs looking at along with the wiring. My lads Nissan Note had the same symptoms yours is displaying , a new sensor cured it.
