The only one thats worth having is opcom but you need a laptop. Its the closest to dealer level software. look on amazon. Its a black unit with 3 leds. Dont buy the blue one. They start from £15

 

I don't want to buy another tool like OP-COM when i just bought ELM327. The problem with OP-COM is that most of it on eBay is a cheap Chinese fakes and OP-COM works only with OP-COM software which is very expensive unless you use a Pirate Version downloaded from the internet.

 

The ones you refer to on eBay are the ones everyone is using and they work perfectly. Its what I use and probably 99% on here who have them are using them as well. The ones on eBay or Amazon come complete with interface and Software and you never need to download any other Software or Update it. Its personal choice though and if people want to buy Vauxcom etc at £hundreds then I guess its everyones choice.

 

IVe got both opcom and vauxcom as well as ELM327. The ELM does not do 1% of the things opcom can do. Opcom/Vauxcom gets the vote from me every time. The only time I use ELM327 is for non vauxhall cars.

 

The main issue you have is ELM will only connect to the engine control unit - if your lucky. It will not connect to the body control module, ABS, TC, Instruments , Power steering module, Immobiliser, Airbag, Info Display or Radio

 

Reading and clearing fault codes (Check the engine) is all i need. Anyone here know the software then? If you would recommend op-com i mean device + software can you share a link here?

 

Any opcom unit will work fine. Look on amazon. A friend ordered one off amazon the other day. £15 delivered. Works perfect.

Ahh you paid for those discs, the basic interface and software is under 10 pounds

 

Well i didn't had a clue what I'm buying and those discs seemed to be quite good set

 

I wrote a message to the admin of http://obd2help.co.uk/ asking about best software for ELM327 for my Meriva. He recommended ScanXL Professional. I downloaded it and connect my interface to the car at first try. I was able to read and clear fault codes Now i can drive my car with laptop plugged in and record everything what's going on with the car while driving. Awesome.

 

Got my OP-COM today. Managed to connect to the car read and clear the codes but well that's it there is not much options in this program beside reading live diagnostics (blocks) and it's hard to find any tutorial to learn what that program can do.
