Have a look under the centre dash section, immediately below the round buttons for heated rear window, etc. There is a distinct and deep depression in the moulding and this is where the socket lies. It is black or white and might have a cover

 

Its under the panel between the handbrake and the gearstick...a small pick or thin flat blade should pull/prise it up....
