Hi.
The engine fan has started running all the time on my astra a little while after start up. It's a 2011 Sri 1600 astra j petrol.
Reading up it looks perhaps like a sensor or in the thermostat housing. Is there a way I can test anything before randomly replacing? Or is it likely to be one in particular?

Thanks for.any help.

Yes, I do have service vehicle soon come on!!. Wifeys car. God knows how long it's been doing it! I drove it today.
Can it be cleaned if it take it off?
Of tested with a multi meter, or is it a waste of time?

Does any or know how to check the resistance of these sensors or so with a multimeter to see if they are faulty? They're easy to get to. I've ordered a code scanner for now, but thought it see if I can test them first.

Agreed. Ive ordered one of the elm327 Bluetooth dongles to see what it throws up. Are they the same as opcom?
Just it will probably take 3 days to get here now so was just wondering if I could test it with me ol meter whilst waiting..I best not buy a new sensor housing incase it's not it. Because if I fit it, I can't return it.

Does anyone know of a good supplier that gives good prices? I called the dealer and they want ÂŁ160. Are they trying to sell me the whole thing?

I was wondering then..the fan comes on when the car starts up now.

If I were to plug in the New part without actually fitting it on first, whist the faulty one is still insitu, it should stop the fan and confirm the fault? yes???

It says A16xer/20rt1307

So,
I've got two elm327 obd2 diagnostic scanners in the post.
One took a while to arrive so I ordered another from elsewhere.
A black xtrons and a panlong from Amazon.

So, both appear to work and connect perfectly. I am using the torque app although lite version at the moment and so far I've tried 4 other obd2 apps.

Here's the thing.. I get a lot of live data and readings coming from the ecu so they are obviously working but I am getting no dtc codes showing from any of the apps. What's going on??
They say no stored faults or pending faults

Need a little help guys .....

Here's the really weird thing, if I press the clear logged faults button in torque the fan stops running and the service vehicle light goes out but then it comes back after about 10 seconds and the fan starts....

Edit.......

Just found another app called scan my opel that's given me this....screen shot...

Any thoughts

Oh. Bit late harry !!!! I guess I can do it again with air bleed screw undone????

I have done said job now. Replaced crummy stat. The Fan does not appear to come on. Hurrah, and no leaks. Thanks gents.

However, I put the exact same coolant back in that came out and Its at a higher level at the moment in the tank by an Inch.....

I'll see what it's like in the morning. No wish to have an air lock...
