Are you going to share the fault codes or keep them secret?

 

I would if there were any. I said in my post there are no fault codes, just the SVS message.

 

Without any codes it's guess work. It's possible that your dpf is blocked too. It's also possible you have a blocked fuel filter etc.
Best to take it to a trusted independent garage/diesel specialist to have a diagnostic done or use a decent code reader, Opcom, Tec 2 etc. Then post any fault codes you have.
Usually when you stop the car and if the dpf was still within a regen or just finished one the under bonnet fan comes on for around 2 minutes to cool down the dpf filter, that's probably what you've heard. These engines are not suitable for continuous short trips, I know this, as I've owned 3 of them.

 

Your vehicle was in limp mode, there will certainly be stored codes which the equipmentused has not picked up.

Just an update.

Taking it to a dealer next week for a diagnostic.

In the meantime I have replaced the fuel filter and took the EGR valve and pipe off and gave them a good clean. A lot of baked on soot.

Took the car out for spin and everything seemed fine, but as soon as i hit 3000rpm the SVS message pinged up and power immediately dropped. I pulled over and cleared the message with my reader. Car was fine again until I hit 3000rpm, SVS and lack of power came back again.

One thing I have noticed, there is like a 'tinny' top end rattle as the revs get closer to 3000rpm.

Although the car was running smoothly prior to the SVS, there didn't seem to be as much grunt, almost like the turbo wasn't kicking in.

Couldn't find any signs of leaks or splits in the hoses.

 

During tick over have your revs increased? As though your car is having a regen.

 

Nope, no increase. Tick over stays at around 900-1000 rpm

 

When warm mine sits at around 800 rpm, when within a regen it sits at around 1000 rpm. From a cold start it's at around 1000rpm, few minutes later down to 800 again. Does your under bonnet fan come on at all when you've turned the ignition off? 1000rpm tick over when warms sounds a little high to me.

 

Need to wait to see what the diagnostic shows up...

 

Yep, coincidentally the fan came on this morning when I turned off the ignition after a 20 mile drive. Fan ran for about a minute.

I checked the tick over later on and it started around 1000 rpm from cold and then steadily dropped to 790 rpm (measured with live data on code reader).

 

The fan coming on, sounds like it's still trying to regen or just finished one.
I'd be tempted to take it to an independent diesel specialist, certainly be cheaper than vauxhall & they should have the latest diagnostic gear that'll cover your engine. Probably come across this issue many times before.

 

Update.

Had diagnostic carried out, no fault codes.

They tested the turbo and actuator and found a small split in one of the vacuum hoses.

Replaced the hose (part number: 55587330) and everything is working ok. Full power restored and no SVS.

My SVS message on same engine type was a failed pressurised Glow Plug. Didn't deem to affect the performance but speaking with VX service department i use can affect various things including DPF regen failure, electrical issues and engine performance issues as they sense TDC when engine is running.
