Following on from my previous post I have had my Agila back from garage after paying out another £200
for parts , new EGR , s/h e.c.u. and he reckons a remap , anyway all seemed ok up until yesterday then engine fault symbol came on , followed by temp rising to just over halfway mark on gauge and engine started running lumpy , so got back on here and found the pedal trick test so just been out and tried it but it doesn't seem to work on the Agila , so help please guys , I cant afford to spend much more on it !

Buy an OPCOM unit. They are about £20 on eBay. They will let you read all the codes and give you some live data which you can post here to see if we can throw any light on the situation :)
You should also take it straight back to the garage. Sounds to me like they are just replacing parts for the sake of it and hoping that it works. Say that you are not satisfied and you demand that they fix it for free. Trading standards reccomend the same thing
Trading Standards said:
f the garage replaces a part during the service or repair, you are entitled to expect that the part is:

  • of satisfactory quality - this means it has to meet a standard that a reasonable person would regard as being satisfactory, taking the description into account, the price (if relevant) and all other relevant circumstances. The meaning of satisfactory quality also takes into consideration the state and condition of the part, whether it is fit for the purpose for which it was supplied, its appearance and finish, safety, durability and whether it is free from minor faults. Public statements made by the garage about the part's specific characteristics - particularly in advertising or on labelling - must be accurate and are taken into consideration when deciding if it is of satisfactory quality
  • fit for its purpose and any purpose made know to the trader - the part should perform as it is designed to do and must also be fit for any specific or particular purpose made known to the garage at the time of the agreement
  • as described - the part should correspond with any description applied to it.
If a fault is not correctly diagnosed or is not properly repaired, you are entitled to ask the garage to carry out further repairs at no cost to you.
It's not of satisfactory quality as it hasn't fixed the problem. It's not fit for purpose either, as again, they haven't fixed the problem. (I assume they diagnosed it too).
Go in there and kick up a right stink basically.

BTW, I'd also go and find another garage. The one you are using sounds like they are just replacing parts and hoping that it works.

Wait... "Remap"?!
The remap idea is just simply diabolical. http://www.corsa-c.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?47744-Engine-Tuning-Z12XE. A remap won't make it instantly run better either. Even though this is a 1.2 the 1.0 is basically the same engine but without a 4th cylinder

I wonder if he meant program the ECU...
It's got my alarm bells ringing. A remap sounds incredibly fishy and is the complete wrong thing to do...

If it is a second hand ECU then it will have coded to make it work with your car.
That us not a remap.
