2.2 SRi to 3.0ltr Mv6 engine swap

Hi people. Project Vectrevo is getting well under car butchery and the like, as well as the car's stature looking fast standing still, with an addition of a nice burbling V6 will simply round off the car's modification list nicely.

To my understanding (please correct me if I'm wrong peeps), in order for me to do this conversion, firstly I need a donor V6 (GSi?) that has; all the neccessary bolt on bits such as front subframe, diffs etc. So effectively, if I wanted to, I could keep the GSi 2.5ltr lump and have done with it. However I dont do things by halves... I want the MV6 3.0ltr lump outta the Omega... I take it this is an upgrade from the 2.5 GSi and it's a straight swap from the 2.5 to the 3.0 (will i need any 3.0 ancillaries; ECU, fuel pump, wiring loom etc).

Hi pal, you will need all the 2.5 v6 ancils. ie alternator, starter motor, sump, dipstick, plenums, possibly abs and fuel pumps. Its a lot of work but doable, if you have the time money and skill, To be honest though, your best option is to try and fine a 3.0 engine thats already vec ready. They come up every now and then.

Hi mate. Cheers for that. So a general rule of thumb to initially convert to v6 is to pinch all the running gear of a veccy B GSi; front subframe, D-shafts, brakes, wiring loom (same as 3.0ltr?) keep 2.5 sump?(for subframe clearance or similar?) plenums, abs, fuel pumps, alt, starter. I take it all this bolts straight on to the 3.0ltr mv6?

My plan is to buy a cheap v6 GSI and use the parts I need to convert my 2.2 to v6. Once all in and running (a lot of work I know but then non of my projects are easy!LOL), next stage is to look at fitting the bigger brother, the mv6... or even (pennies permitting) the 3.2 off the veccy c... we'll see as for the 200cc increase, I'm not overly fussed cos (in the back of me head) I really want to slap on an Eaton supercharger - that however is gonna be down to how the build has progressed at that stage (but would be N-I-C-E!LOL).

hi pal you dont need to buy an mv6 as thats only the trim level, the engine is the same in all 3.0

Theres a few cars you can get the 3.0 from, omega, sintra and an old saab 9000 (i think its 9000). Better to get one with low mileage if possible. But as before best bet is to find a 3.0 engine for sale. If you get stuck or need any more help let me know

Dead easy, this one. Think of the 3.0 as a 2.5 with more inner area and you're about there.
The engines are the same - only the spinning bits inside are different.
You'll need the 3.0 lower plenum and the basic engine (long block) below it. After that all the 2.5 stuff needs to go on it.
Its a lot of swapping over but its really easy to do as the vectra is unitary - meaning everything from different engine'd models bolts straight on to any other model.
Drop the 2.5 out with subframe and suspension, etc still attached. Swap the long block with the 3.0 while its out and then just bolt it back into whatever vectra you feel like.
Easy.

While I think of it though don't get your hopes up of it being the fastest thing in the world. You're going to get a lot more torque but only about 65bhp extra. Now that's a lot but it still means you have around 220bhp (and I'm being kind because a lot of the 3.0's don't make that when converted into vec's) in a fairly large FWD car.
It'll be lovely for roll ons in top but you're not going to be keeping with decent hot hatches until fairly high speeds.

Cheers guys, all gud info. To be honest after coming from a Japanese car background (and owning a few cav's along the way) I suspected this swap to be a straight forward one.
Siraff, cheers for info bud. Fuffsri - cant sell veccy as too much work has gone into the bodywork. Check out my Project Vectrevo on my facebook page for all the info.

Just as a heads up, this veccy of mine is to be a show car... mainly aesthetics with a touch a everyfink else. My bag is once-off custom work... stuf that's not been done before. Alot of peeps have said 'why a veccy?' Well, I have to start somewhere, right? (debut business show car that is, prior to that I've build 3 others as personal projects). As this project rolls on, vauxhall gear is nowhere near expensive as jap stuff, so adding a nice burbling v6 to this project will cap it off nicely. Yes, a lot of work, but I think it'll compliment the build nicely. I aint building this as a tarmac terrorist... just summit that's fresh and sounds damn cool.

I mentioned the 3.2 as a possible upgrade, cos my lateral thinking says this newer lump, not only is bigger in capacity, but, might also be better on fuel? (not to mention lower milage examples about). It'd be nice, however not essential as I'm mearly after the v6 bang - deffo 3.0ltr though. A 3.2 wud have to land in my hands at a very gud price to the point it'll be rude not to buy...
...saying that, according to the info on here, after my intial purchase of a GSi, all the GSi stuff simply bolts on & I think the 3.2 requires more work / parts - however I'm not put off by this. Gonna get the veccy to 99% basecoat ready stage before any engine work is undertaken.
