Hi,

Yesterday I spotted a puddle at the front of my car in a car park. I checked the coolant and it does need topping up but also saw gunk on the cap and around the top (see pictures
).
Oil on dipstick looks normal to me.

I think the leak is from the water pump but am wondering if the gunk suggests that the head gasket has gone? If so could I use a sealant to keep everything going and top up the coolant or will I need to replace the pump and head gasket (which I guess would cost more than the value of the car)?
Cheers

What engine? What’s the oil filler cap like and shine a torch in the opening see if it’s milky looking in the engine. Is your coolant still red with just the gunk on the cap and top of tank? May be oil cooler if your car has one
