Ok, next question, is my 2l 8v cav suppose to have an exhaust manifold heatsheild??? If it is it aint there!

looks like ill be bugging the fitters for a sheet of stainless steel when i get back to work then!!

i have owned a few 2.0 8v cavs & none have had exhaust heat shields fitted , iirc it was only the spi & carb models that had them.

To be more accurate, it is all to do with cold starting/running and the prevention of icing due to latent heat in the inlet tracts.
No 8v 1.8 or 2.0 multi point injection engines had them as mixture control is excellent with a very short distance from the injector to the cylinder. The 8v 1.6 and 1.8 single point and carb engines need them to gather hot air into the air intake since mixture control is nowhere near as accurate and there is far further for the fuel/air mix to travel and an increased risk of icing.
Why an XE has one I don't know as it is not used as part of the air inlet system.
