Right on the head i am rebuilding, the engineis missing two of the cam caps.. but on a spare(scrap) head i have, there is a complete set....

Now i understand that the caps are exact for each individual engine as the heads are machine for the cams after these are fitted.. is it possible to utilise the 'spare' caps and just have the head remachined?

I was advised not to do so in the past with a Coscast that had missing caps :(

After casting the caps are fitted and 'line bored' the diameter of the camshaft bearing areas. You could have it done again but accurate lining up, so that most of the caps are not touched would be a serious challange to any machine shop. You could get a quote and in a sense you have nothing to lose, but as Micky says, few would recommend it.

On a GM head it ain't worth it, get another.
