My Meriva has a water leak into the left hand side of the boot which has made everything soggy and even started to rust some of the bits in my socket set I keep in there before I discovered it. I parked with the passenger side up on the pavement yesterday and can see now that it is running out of the 12V accessory socket then down the trim panel and into the well where the warning triangle and first aid kit would sit.

The hatch drain holes are clear. It is not water from the rear washer.

I took the rear light assembly out on that side yesterday and made a new gasket seal out of some closed cell plastic foam sheet. I also noticed there was no seal on the top locating peg on the light, one of the ball mountings doesn't have the corresponding socket on the body and the seals that are there looked squashed. But they have always been like that and no water ever got in.

I am hoping my new seals will work but if not that leaves the grommet where the hatch wiring enters the body.

I think I will be out there later with a watering can to see if I can track it down.

Anyone else had water leaking in that side?

Sunroof drains all free flowing.
Removed the back light and made a new gasket for it out of some closed cell polyurethane foam and for good measure made some additional seals where the ball joints pop into the cups on the body.
Poured 4 litres of water over it and not a drop coming in.
Poured loads of water directly onto the rubber tube which carries the wiring from the hatch into the body and not a single drop coming in.
Go out this morning and everything is soaked again and it is dripping out of the 12V power supply socket and running down the plastic trim then dripping into the recess where the warning triangle fits.
So I am no further forward.

Plan for next dry day is to use some water dyed with food colourant and pour loads over the rear light again then check the next day to see if any coloured water gets in by the next day.

I think it is running down the wiring loom which is why it is getting in via the 12V socket because that branches off the main loom so the water would naturally continue down it and then out through the socket.

Once I am certain it is not the light it will be back to a different colour water and pour loads over the rubber grommet carrying the wiring and see if any water that colour gets through by the next day,

The headlining is bone dry so really can't see where it would come in otherwise.

Definitely dripping out of the 12V socket in the left hand panel so must be running down the wiring loom.

I am going to try taking the rear light assembly back off and sealing it all up with tape to see if it leaks in then but can't do that till the weekend and when it is raining next.

I'm presuming you were asking if it could be coming up from underneath? It leaks when parked so unlikely due to spray being thrown up.

Annoyingly I've not disturbed anything in the boot area for ages but this is likely to have been leaking for ages judging by how rusty some of my stuff is from the damp.

Give it a spray with a garden hose mate.waterleaks can be a pita to find. Start at bottom of the car with windows shut and have a mate in the boot with a torch watching. Slowly work your way up the car. Good luck !

Might be worth removing the rubber seal around the hatch. Might be water getting under the seal and travelling under and between spot welded panels etc. Shouldnt happen these days but thought id mention it just in case

Soaking wet.

You can see where the water has been running out of the wiring for the 12V socket.

Then dripping down into the boot well.

Rusty patch where the water has dripped.

Next thing is the hose to see if I can track it down.

Lovely sunny day at Koi Castle for a change.

All the openings into the body relating to the light cluster taped up. If it then leaks it rules out the lights, if it doesn't it is going to be the lights somewhere.

House plus annexe.

Leak found, it is getting in through the rubber boot from the hatch, then running down the wiring loom.

Just got to decide what to seal it with now.

My able assistant might have some ideas.

Nah, he didn't know.

Lucky that low point in the loom is there otherwise it would run down into the back floor.

Think it is time for a cider and to track down my trim clips because it looks like this has been out before and one was broke and one missing. Also none in the bottom at all holding the black insert.

That has more or less wiped off now. Drying it out and going to give it a good hoover out while I have the trims removed.

I was surprised at the amount of rust on mine. Don't think there is any paint on it. Obviously bolted in after the body goes through the paint and rust protection baths.

Popped the boot out and going to seal it back to the body with some silicon.
