Hi I wonder if anyone can help. I have a Vivaro 2005 1.9. Up until now i have had no problems, the van drives very well and normally starts ok, sometimes it takes a couple of attempts before it fires up. I used it yesterday with no problems parked it up then this morning it wouldn't fire, the battery started to run low so i jumped it with my suzuki wagon but still no firing. the immobiliser is turning off and i can hear the fuel pump priming. The glow plug light has only ever stayed on for no more than 2 seconds not sure if this means anything but i have read that the light should stay on for around 5 seconds. the grenade shaped pump under the bonnet is solid so im assuming no air leaks.
I have had no miss firing so im assuming this is not a glow plug issue but cant think what could be causing this, any ideas? it was around -3 degrees last night so not sure if this will have any bearing?
many thanks,
Tony
Ultimately you need the fault codes checked.
But if the battery is not very good (and they are prone to go when it gets cold) it will cause bad starting , it will turn over but not quite fast enough.
The glowplugs only really come into there own when the weather is this cold, so they may not all be working, fault codes would show this (beware changing glowplugs unless you have too ! they snap off).
Have you checked the wiring under the air cleaner for wear? if not you probably haven't read http://www.vauxhallownersnetwork.co.uk/index.php?threads/vivaro-maintenance-and-faults.341088/, you should !
ok thanks, i will try a new battery in the morning and read the thread you have suggested. If that doesn't fix it i will get it taken to my local garage
Hi Tony.
Can you let me know how you get on with putting new battery on. As I'm having the same problem. Iv replaced glow plugs crankshaft sensor air filter and given it a good service. But still having starting problems.
New battery on and it started after a few cranks. The outside temp however was 5 degrees as apposed to -3 the other morning. I have it booked into the garage on friday to see if i need new glow plugs. I think it was possibly a combination of a not so great battery and faulty plugs.
Thanks for your help
Tony
