For those who missed out, Alex suggested this concept and we decided to offer a little activity on the Saturday of the show weekend to the members who wanted to have a go, with the incentive of some prizes to those who did well in it.

This consisted of a challenge to get photos of specific items/categories based on what Alex and myself have seen over 7-8 years of Billing attendance experience. So, although there was a high chance everything we set as a challenge would be present, it wasn't guaranteed...

Points would be offered if the entrants successfully showed a photo of each described category - some offered multiple points and/or bonus points.

Anyway, the 15 categories were;

1. A new style Vauxhall Viva
2. A new style Vauxhall Astra
3. A Lotus Carlton - 1 bonus point if it was not on the Autobahnstormers stand
4. Every generation of the Vauxhall Cavalier
5. 10 or more Vauxhall Corsas parked in a line on a club stand
6. A 'Sleeper' Vauxhall
7. A 'Rat-Look' Vauxhall
8. A 'Powered by Fairydust' sticker on a Vauxhall
9. A 'His & Hers' pair of modified Vauxhalls
10. A 'showplate' with the owners forum username/nickname in place of the normal registration plate
11. A sticker-bombed car. 1-10 stickers = 1pt / 11-15 stickers = 2pts / 16-20 stickers = 3pts / 21+ stickers = 5pts
12. A Car-B-Q
13. A car on stretched tyres with cards/flyers wedged between the rubber and the rim
14. 'Built not Bought' stickers - 1pt per sticker
15. A trailer built from part of a Vauxhall

We had 3 prizes (bought on the day!) for the top 3 entries. As it turned out, we only had 3 entries at the end of the Saturday.

The winners were as follows;

3rd Place; Team Essex Boy (Stoneshed)

He scored 17 points, mostly gathered in a mad 25min dash just before the cut off time! A great effort!

2nd Place; Team 'Oop North' (Nathan, Hannah, Nathan)

They scored 19pts, losing out on the top spot only by the Tie Break question. Unlucky, but good work!

1st Place; Team 'Daan Saaf' (Sy & Trish)

They also scored 19pts, but Sy got the Tie Break question to give them the win. Top job!

Those who did enter gave good feedback on the idea, saying it helped make it more interesting to spend time having a walk around the various stands across the showground. It's good to get this sort of feedback too.

Next year, we will definitely do this again with new categories instead and a tweak of the rules/scoring... We shall also organise the prizes in advance of the show, so people know what is at stake - we hope to make it a bit more popular! :)

Do we get to see any of the photos?
If the members decide to post them, then yeah.

They probably aren't going to be hugely great quality, as we only needed to see enough to award points.

I have a few examples of them that I used as references in case people struggled to find them, I can upload tomorrow if it's of that much interest...

I just thought it'll be nice to see the photos that won... In general there doesn't seem to be that many Billing photos. Wish I had taken more but my memory card was full!

Got a nice snap of that Classic Viva with half Viva trailer, wrapped matt black.

Really want one now!

They were a combination of pics of 'things', it wasn't like a Best photo competition.

I have a small number of pics to post up this week. Didn't take as many as normal this year.

Should be compulsory posting, or a bit of a nothing event for those that didn't get to go to billing.
Don't agree with that personally, as it's an on site 'game' for the attendees of the show to participate in if they want to, but oh well.

Here are some of my examples anyway;

1. A new Viva - 1pt

3. A Lotus Carlton - 2pts, as it/they weren't on the Autobahnstormer stand

4. Every generation of the Vauxhall Cavalier - 3pts, Mk1/2/3 photographed

5. 10 or more Vauxhall Corsas in a line on a club stand - 1 pt (I cheated, this was taken on Sunday - there wasn't more than 10 in a line on Saturday anywhere)

6. A 'Sleeper' Vauxhall - 1pt

7. A 'Rat Look' Vauxhall - 1pt

10. A 'showplate' with the owners Forum username - 1pt

11. A 'Sticker-bombed' car - 5pts

12. (&15.) - A Car-B-Q (and a Trailer made from part of a Vauxhall) - 2pts

13. Stretched tyres with cards between rim/rubber - 10pts

14. A 'Built not Bought' sticker - 1pt

As it can be seen, this is NOT a photography competition.

He's just posting up about one of the little items that took place to perhaps give people an idea of what goes on at the show and perhaps encourage others to attend.

As Dave said it was just a little fun based on capturing certain items not an actual photo comp.

As a side note. The owner of that monaro wants shooting (maybe shooting is harsh, mild mauling by a penguin perhaps) Less is more when it comes to badges :)

Yeah, well some of us have to work for a living!! and we know we are missing out, but thanks for thinking about those that couldn't go
Think pretty much everyone there has to work for a living.

I know I do.

There are pics up in the other threads.... Just not of the competition as it was just random crap to make a little game.

It's the way you put it that gets a reaction. I guess that's the problem with forums/the written word. Sometimes the irony/leg pulling etc is lost in writing.

I only asked originally as I wondered what cars were snapped, and what ones I didn't notice. I wasn't part of the game as I was on another stand. I totally understand that it was a little 'for attendees' type game, nothing wrong with that, and no real need to post up the photos.

I work, and I work hard, but I made sure I kept Sunday free as I really wanted to go to the show this year, it means I'm even more knackered as I worked 6 days before Billing, drove to Billing and back in one day, and then worked another 6 (including tomorrow). It's a bit out of order to say 'some of us have to work for a living', I'm sure the vast majority on here do.

It's an all too banded about word (Work) , when some carpenter ran into the back of the first wife's car he agreed to pay for repairs until i told him I'd need £500 to cover the costs. He ranted & raved at me about his time & money was precious & that he worked hard for a living etc etc , after he finished his little sermon i reminded him that i did as well but i wasn't the one that drove into the back of another car at speed in his haste to get home. In the end i got some dollar & the ex wife terriorised him until we got the rest. ( scary woman the ex lol )
