Asked in a thread in general chat but guess it wasnt specialised enough to get a proper answer.

Basically im confused as to which interval applies to my car...ive sneaked a look in my mates Autodata cambelt book and it says the intervals are either 40k or 36k?

Which one is a 95 C25XE ?

Also, do i need any special tools to do the job... Im still undecided on whether to do it...I think if the tools are expensive im gonna get it done at a garage to be honest...

Any good places to get the tools should it need any?

Ive done plenty of cambelts on the newer eco's, just never one on the old C25XE, so dont know if it needs tooling like the newer ones.

Thanks in advance. :)

40k is safe, but 36k recommended

special tools will make the job straightforward ... they can be hired from autovaux for £15 a week if you buy your kit from them ...

you can buy the special 'locking' tool set for anywhere from £40 to £120 ... someone on the forums was selling a job lot at something like £50 new ...

otherwisw, ebay is a good source for the locking kit ... several companies do them ...

Yes, there is a lot of confusion about cambelt change intervals.

At one time Vauxhall were saying 80,000 miles/8 years (whichever sooner), but that was soon reduced to 40,000 miles/4 years after lots of claims!

They'll charge about £300 to do it, which may sound a lot, but don't forget it's a wrecked engine if you get it wrong.

Since you've done ECOTec's before, you presumably know to change the rollers/tensioner, as it's these that fail and wreck the belt.

Good luck. :Cool2:

Aye, without question....Bloody useless the tensioners and rollers are. lmao.

Only £300.00 change the cambelt....at a main dealers?? Thats not actually bad, unless of course thats labour only plus VAT estimate! haha.

Is the C25XE kit specific then? Or doies the same X25XE/X30XE kits you see do the C25XE as well?

AFAIK mate the locking kit works on all the V6s, - they are essentially the same engine, just different inlet systems and few other little bits....

There are 2 different belt kits for the V6. One has a flanged tensioner pulley and supposedly lasts 70k, the other doesnt and lasts 40k. I would go for the kit with the flanged tensioner pulley (Gates make this kit) but don't know if I would trust it for 70k. The kit is approx. £80.

By the way, to do the job, I think all you need is a torx socket set. The engine manual would come in useful too. I can Email you this if you want. I did mine without the locking tools without any problem.
