My birds 1993 1.4i Corsa has become more and more uneconomical on fuel.

I suspected it was overfuelling after seeing black smoke from the exhaust.
And it has cut out once or twice with the reek of petrol.
Take fuel pump fuse out, turn her over and she starts up. Let her die.
Put fuel pump fuse back in, and hey presto she's away again.

So filled her up (40 litres) and got 180 miles.

1 Gallon = 4.5461 litres
So 40 litres= 8.77 Gallons
180 miles / 8.77 Gallons = 20.5 mpg

Pretty :turd imo for such a small car.

Things I have replaced.........
Air Filter
Lambda Sensor
Spark Plugs
HT Leads
Idel Control Steppper Motor
Fuel Filter

Things left I can think of..
Coolant Temperature Sensor
Worn Piston Rings

If it was piston rings can petrol be seeping past them into the oil?

Or any other ides from peoples most welcome...:Cool2:

For the price and ease of fitment, would change the cts next. Wouldn't even bother measuring it's resistence, will be old, and if ok still not as good as a new item.

Yes.
Ive got my fingers crosed it's that.

Didnt mention Ive got no EML light to give me a clue.

Dont know if it was CTS if it would give a fault or not.
But for price of it I'm gonna change it.

My instinct is it's something else though.

Single point or mulit point injection.

Is it lacking a bit of zip?

All the vaccum hoses etc ok (if its single point its a MAP based sensor so vaccum is important)

CTS is a primary ECU input for fuelling i.e. abscence of one of the primary ECU sensor signals will result in 'bigger' problems being manifest.

i thought youd fixed this prob mate?
So did I m8.:Cool2:
Ive fixed dozens of problems with it so far.

This is a new one.

Thinking my girlfriend is tampering with it so she get's a new motor.

But she's since specified she wants a small car and not a big cavalier :shame:

Im determined to keep the Corsa on the road though.
