My folks went to go out the drive in their 54 plate Astra Design yesterday evening but the power steering was dead. Trying to turn the wheel was just like if there was no power steering fitted

However, today it was fine. Not knowing much about later Astras I had a look and checked the fluid level, it was fine. I take it is some kind of electrically operated pump, due to its location.

Any suggestions as to what may have caused this temporary loss?

The pump is electric and if the battery is not charging properly the power steering can stop working
was the battery light in the dash on while they were driving
or could be a loose connection or fuse
