You could take the 'connect it & see approach', but personally I would opt for wiring it from scratch....

This will preserve your cars current wiring loom & avoid any issues associated with it....

I would use 10awg power cable for the main supply through a 4 pin relay into some form of fused distribution....(easily sourced from Motorworld, Halfords etc etc)....

Take an Ignition live for the switching current for the relay, (from either the fuse box or the black wire you mention earlier), for full Ignition dependant operation....

A picture paints a thousand words....As you can see the Live supplies are fused at the battery & Ign live pick up point....

i have just finished tinkering with my 06 zafira b and found the ignition switched live that i have used for my dvd players and playstation.in the ignition loom you will find a brown wire and a single black wire there is another black wire but this is wrapped around an orange/black stripe wire but the one you want is the single black wire.hope this helps i know its a bit late but hopefully it can help more people in the future

In the centre console pocket between the front seats, take out the rubber base. There is a hole at the front you can get your fingers in and find a black wire with a white plug on the end; this is the switched live feed for the lit 12v lighter socket (used to come as part of the comfort pack)
Take a feed from this for you DVD’s. Failing that if you take out your head unit and then pop off the heater controls, you can use splice into the black wire behind there for switched live. Behind the head light controls you will also find the black switched live; of if you roof mount, use the black switched live found on the back of the courtesy/door light.

All will power your DVD players.

This is what i done to connect my carkit to the switching supply and where i found it.
I know this post is old but i hope it helps others.

Use a screwdriver to lift both sides of the console under the handbrake. It will just pop up,no screws.

This is the black wire that is the switched 12v power supply, the red one is constant and brown is negitive.Still connected here, easily removed to splice on to.

All done now.Just be carefull and use a couple of small cable ties to route the wires with the original so that they dont get caught in the handbrake.

As with anything on a forum, its just a guide.

You dont have to copy what i did so use whatever wire connections you see fit.

I used scotchloks because nokia bundled them with the carkit.(I was too lazy to solder too :) and i agree they are not suitable for all wire connections.
Nothing personal mate glad you have posted it makes the site worth while
just my training makes me post cant help it

Cheers Bud
