I'm in the process of replacing a head gasket on a '92 cav 2L injection 8 valve.
I've been told that the stretch bolts can be re-used provided that they have not been re-used previously ie they can be re-used once only.
What do you guys think ?

I'd say for the money a new set costs it's not worth the potential aggro... if the old ones cause probs, you'd end up having another skim, HG, and still have to shell out for new bolts.

Plus there's all the messing about having to take the head off again....

Normally if the bolts have been reused a mechanic will mark the bolts but if in doubt fit new as they dont cost much anyway.

was always under the impressin stretch bolts should never be reused (as they strectch when torqued up??). Personally i would always change them, they dont cost much and if your going to do the job, might as well to it properly, then theres never any doubt as to wheather the head gasket is going to leak.
