hi again,

So I’ve found out that I need to replace my starter motor... now keep coming across motors which state they fit both 8v and 16v engines. Now is this correct?
Could I possibly put a 16v starter motor on my 8v cdti? Would it possibly turn the car over better by putting a 16v starter on?
I’m just wondering if it would be like an upgrade for the starter motor to replace it with a 16v.

I’ve seen lots on eBay which state they fit both 8v and 16v engines???

Any advice is gratefully appreciated!

I wouldn't rely on eBay as a 'trusted source' of compatibility.

Either visit/call a Vauxhall dealer/parts supplier, give them your reg and they can give you the right part no.... Or browse the parts database here: http://ecat24.com/opel/catalog/parts/1/41/565/4045/

When you have the correct part number, search eBay for that number.... also do a simple google for that number for many other sources/prices.

For example (this may NOT be your part No): https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=9130838

Should be a 12 volt starter motor, would think 8 volt would turn over fast and might burn out and 16 might be a bit sluggish..never heard that one before...Fred in cold Essex.

Fred - he means an 8 valve engine and the 16 valve version of the engine, not the voltage of the starter motor.

Yeah I meant valve. I should have explained myself more to be honest. I just don’t know weather it’d be better with the 16v motor on it, maybe it will kick over a lot quicker. I’m awaiting response from Vauxhall main dealer with the part number so I can cross reference them
