Evening all,

so I spotted a few dark drips on the driveway had a look under the car and there’s some kind of red oily liquid dripping. Not sure what that part is called?

Its on the gearbox side of the car.

I had a refurb gearbox box put in by a local gearbox specialist back in March could it have any thing to do with that ?

Looks like the casing is leaking on the joint, take the car back and get them to look at it,..

So that is part of the gearbox that would have been removed I guess when they refurbed it.

Will give them a call Monday first thing.

Guess it’s best to not drive it now ?

I would get it sorted asap, the more oil it losses the bigger the chance of internal damage.

Will call them first thing Monday. Should be covered under the 12 month warranty after they fitted the gearbox.

Bit of bad luck, after it was fitted the cs leaked they replaced the part/labour under warranty and now this. Bit odd I guess considering all seals where changed. Nature of cars I guess.

Spoke to the gearbox people just now and he said its hard to say without looking but said they see quite a few driveshaft leaks in that area. Dont think that’s the case for me. From the floor it looks like that seal between the two parts .

They cant get it in for 13 days and to keep journeys limited but there is 2.5 litres of oil in there he said.

Curiosity is that part called a differential cover ?
Was searching for similar issues but don’t know what it’s called)

I assume it’s to do with the gearbox that went in as they sprayed it silver.

Took a few pictures with a bit better lighting. Noticed the two lower corners are crushed. Bit odd.

No play in the wheel, both ends of driveshaft dry.

Got the car back and turns out it was a faulty gasket, they drained the box and put a new gasket.

Edit: there was a nick in it he said. As the box as been in 3 odd months and not leaked they think it could have been a manufacturing fault / quality issue which broke down from the oil. He said its a guess really.

Any further issues they said I would be the most unlucky vauxhall owner and would not mess about and remove the box and supply and fit a new one.

Got to love great service/garage when things go wrong as they can with cars.

Balls .. the leak is back but less, barely even a drip .. like half a drip ball lol sigh .. same area.


It must be a hairline crack or something

Back to the garage I go! I’m sure they must be getting annoyed by this car.
