do all ecotecs build revs slowly, if i'm staitionary and rev the car it seems to be slow to respond, you certainly cant just blip the revs also it seems to be slow to drop revs between gear change, seems to drive ok but engine doesn't seem crisp at all, tickover etc is fine, is this just the way ecotecs are(to reduce emissions?) had plenty of ford and vw/audi's which even with modern engines seem crisp

only the v6's i think seem slower,the 1.8 and 2.0 should rev normally,check the throttle body for gunk esp the butterfly,any split's in the truncking anywhere.
