Have a 1.9 CDTI Signum (06) elegance.

recently on the display the temp shows temp in the mid 30's

Could this be a faulty sensor, if so where is it and is it easy to replace.

Or have my kids somehow converted from C to F???

Yep, prob a duff sensor. Located behind and below the front numberplate in the bumper. Approx £10 from Vauxhall for a new one.

Im a bit of a muppet do you get in through bonnet or under neath

Open the bonnet, look downwards, down the front of the radiator. The sensor is clipped to the back of the bumper.

On the facelift (which an 06 Signum is) I very much doubt you'll be able to look downwards and see it once the bonnet is open. This is the case of 06 Vectra anyway, and the bumper / bonnet layout should be the same.
