Hope someone can help a total numpty such as myself!

I am about to go to my Vauxhall dealer and get new discs and pads for my 1996 Omega (2l Petrol). I know there are two kinds ie: 286 and 296 but my chassis number should give the dealer the info' he requires.

Before I start to take the old ones off (i just cannot afford to have a garage do it at the mo so have to struggle on my own) any advice on potential problems or even a blow by blow account of how this should be done would be extremely helpful. If there is info' on this site then would appreciate being pointed in the right direction.

Many Thanks in advance.

Yours should be the 286mm ones, I understand that Vauxhall discs/pads are reasonably good VFM.

I changed mine just a few weeks ago, had no problems at all. The only issue which has cropped up is that I now get a bit of brake squeal, just enough to be mildly annoying, so make sure you put the copper grease on the back of the pads (I did - maybe I didn't use enough!).

Will happily give a blow by blow account if you need it, PM me.
