Do you know if there is a way of reducing play in the steering box itself? There seems to be a large amount of play in the steering wheel., esp when engine is off. track rod ends etc are ok, it all seems to be in the steering box...
If steering is left in say 2 or 10 o'clock position then there will be play evident, but in centre position with road wheels in straight ahead position then there should be minimal amounts of play, unfortuneatly it's a characteristic of these recirculating ball type steerings, there should be screw on the top of the box, the securing nut is loosened and the screw can be adjusted, but if you think it's necessary to adjust then make sure this screw is not overtightened otherwise damage to the internal ball races can occur, as said earlier if wheels in straight ahead and steering wheel centred and you have minimal play then leave well alone as all is normal like this.
