07 1.9 cdti been decatted (or whatever the hell you want to call it) by the prevous owner, should I put one on or leave it. Still got plenty mot but never had a car with it removed/gutted so don't know if it affects mpg and general driving what do you think.

It will fail the visual check at MOT time, and may also fail the emissions test.
In theory it should produce more power and therefore worse MPG as it doesn't have the restriction of the cat.
As to whether you put one back on depends on you and how long you are keeping the car, you will need one for MOT purposes, in addition, you may find your insurance is voided if you don't declare it.

Very true, good advice. However, if the OP has just bought the car, he can plead ignorance with the insurers. Not like he was trying to non-disclose.

I would be searching for a used part on ebay or specialist breakers and get it fitted soon as.

True, but insurers are tricky bar stewards and will do anything to get out of paying so I thought I should just point out that in the event of an accident, an inspection will reveal no cat and you can bet they'll check through their records to see if it was declared or not, they could in theory void it on road worthiness as it is a definite MOT fail.

Wouldn't put it past them.

Aren't derv smoke tested rather than emissions?

It will need a car (or dummy cat) for mot though. For the visual test, as already said.

I agree, good advice. Thing is though, as with any used car you buy, you can only disclose what you know about. A used car could in theory have something non-standard that you're genuinely unaware of and therefore unable to disclose. Ignorance not fraud. I'm not for one second suggesting non-disclosure and voiding insurance cover by the OP or anyone else.

At born..... Yes you're probably right but I got it in good faith having been mot'd just about 5 days before I got it and on the log book they'll see that ie date off sale. So I imagine the last guy and garage that did it will get their collar felt.

Is there any lights on the dash due to the decat? Reason I ask is because the cat will of had to of been mapped out from the ecu if the eml is off.refitteing the cat maye or may not effect the mapping and the functioning of the cat,so if your replacing it then I'
I'd keep the decat pipe just incase it's a bag of nails once refitted
