my astra van 01 1.7tdi has black oil floating in my water. i went to drive it yesterday for the 1st time in 3 weeks wen i noticed,
also a light on the dash has come on, looks like a car with a spanner going through it. It flashes away. It used to go off when it started the engine but not no more,
also it feels slower to drive does any 1 no what this might be ??
please do not say the head. ££££££££?????

the black oil in your water could be your oil cooler, mine is the same and have driven it for the past year with this fault. also with my van you can do the acc and brake pedal test that gives fault code.

Yes, sounds like oil cooler, it's sandwiched between the engine block & oil filter housing, not too sure how much they are but it's a common problem on your engine (Y17DT).
It will need a new oil cooler & the cooling system flushed through & new anti-freeze.
