hi all, ive got one of those odb2 readers but my laptop doesnt have a serial port, so i got a serial to USB converter but cannot make it communicate with the car (2001 Omega V6), which port will it be ?? com 1,2,3 or 4 as the software says no and wont respond to any of those. any thoughts?? cheers

are you using an interface?? interfaces are usually USB

to my knowledge vauxhalls weren't obd2 until 2002 onwards.Mine has never worked with any vehicle before this.

The problem is possibly the USB to RS232 converter, there not suitable for some application's, USB is 5v and RS232 carry's 12v & 5v so if the RS232 device your trying to use requires the 12V feed then the USB/RS232 converter won't work.
