Hi there,
I bought used Vauxhall Astra 2005 1.4 Petrol 5 Door 2 weeks ago and my ''check engine'' light came up on my dashboard. I have checked the fault on Snap-On and it was the lambda (rear) sensor. I have exchanged the sensor with second hand and after 3 days the light came up again. I bought yesterday brand new BOSCH lambda(oxygen sensor) and replace it, but because the light was on, before, the light is still on at the moment. I will go today to reset the fault error and I hope that the light is not going to come again with the brand new sensor, but I would like to ask if the light come again what should I do?
Thank you very much !!!!

I am not sure, but I didn't see any oil leaking to be honest. I will reset the fault error today and I hope the light would not come again, but we will see. I just wanted to know if the light come up again, what should I do and also do you know if the light should've turned off automatically or I need to restart the fault.

You will need to reset the code or wait for I think 25 error free cold start cycles for it to reset itself. You could also try disconnecting the battery for a few hours.

If it comes back on you will need to look at a few things on the live data. Also posting the actual fault code would help (y)

Thank you very much, I will reset the fault error today and I will see if the light will come up next days. Hopefully it would not come again, I have put brand new sensor, but we will see. If the sensor is not working, I am sure that within the next 1/2 days the light will come up again. If the light come up, I will post the fault code and I will double check if the plug has oil. Thanks for your help !

Sounds like your egr valve/intake needs a clean as the code suggests it's stuck open.

Have you checked the fuse aint blown. A fuse controls power to lambdas, egr and evap. Fuse 26 in engine bay seems to ring a bell but check them all. Seen this blown loads of times when the lambda heater shorts out

Can you do the pedal test and let us know what ecn codes show up in the mileage LCD. I need to know the system byte to point you in the right direction. It wouldn't be the first time a snappy has lead me up the garden path.

Hold brake and accelerator down. Turn ignition on to position 2. Keep pedals pressed and look at mileage display. It will give you codes starting with ecn.post the codes. They will be something like ecn14105, ecn140508 etc.Keep pedals pressed until is shows ecn000000. Post all codes

My suggestion is above your last reply. I need the symptom byte and the only way your going to get it is by following my instructions. The snappy will not give a symptom byte.

Your not looking at the check engine light. The codes should come up in the LCD screen on the instruments where the mileage normally is. The codes won't show if you have cleared them and they have not returned. Codes all start with "ecn"

I've just got into bed(up early) but I'll dig a wiring diagram out for you and you can do done testing assuming you have a multimeter and know how to use it.
