I have a vectra '01 2.0dti. The EM light comes on intermittently, when the light is on I have loss of power. Had memoryread came up with 2 faults, tdc sensor(replaced) and EGR valve. Any ideas to help would be appreciated

try clean the egr valve, they are known to stick causing problems.

They are about £80-100 to replace i think.

Can be blanked off on some engines, not sure about yours though mate.

Thanks for that mate. Where is the EGR valve, I've had 2 people tell me different things. One said its by the manifold and one said its by the battery next to 2 solonoids

it will be on the inlet manifold,an egr valve's job is to push exhaust gas into the induction system,partly to reburn unused fuel,partly to keep engine temp down,id try blanking it off their a pain in the ass.

you can't blank the dti egr valves off as it brings the eml on as far as i know.
you could try cleaning the egr valve which is bolted to the top of the inlet manifold as it will be all gunked up i suspect,it would also be an idea to clean up the boost pressure sensor which is bolted to the right of the egr valve and you could clean up the swirl chamber too which is under the inlet cover,your better off taking the lot off to stop as much gunk going into the engine.

thanks guys, bit more for u. i have cleand the egr on top of the inlet manifold,witch has one vaccum pip going to if(if i hav the right part)the valve it self was full of crud,wene i loose power the dash light comes on,so any other suggestions please.

that sounds like the right part to me :Cool2:

did you squeeze the plunger on the egr valve when you took it off and did it hold vacuum ?

you'll have to get the codes read to know excactly what it is,or buy yourself OPCOM and read them yourself.

one thing not qwite sure were the swirl chamber is to clean, and also the turbo boost senser,there did not seem to be anything next or near the egr valve.

the swirl valves are round black disc shaped thing's with two vac pipes on i know one is right behind the rad on the slam panel,the others might be by the battery

the swirl valves i thought were a.k.a butterfly valves as far as i know,and they are under the cover of the inlet manifold which your egr valve was bolted too,they open and close with vacuum too,the vacuum for this is on the right hand end of the inlet manifold down the side,the boost pressure/manifold pressure sensor is also on the right hand side on the top of the inlet manifold,its held in with one torx bolt and it has a plug connector on it .
i think erroneusbogz is on about the boost solinoid valves as they have been called here

there are 2 behind the battery and one by the drivers side bulk head on the inner wing

i know the one at the front was causing my mate greif,we found a split in an elbow going to it a bit of old calibra junk i had knocking around sorted that out.no eml and limp home at 70 mph anymore

very common thing the rubber elbows splitting on the vectra vacuum system
