Have a 96N Corsa 1.2 that overheats in traffic as fan doesn't cut in. The fan works fine if I bypass the thermoswitch and the engine stays cool. I've replaced the thermoswitch (twice!) and flushed the rad, but no improvement. Doesn't use oil or water. What next

Yes, bridging the switch the fans runs continuously and the temp sits at 90 or less. I even checked the switch out of the car and it opens at abt 88

do the heaters work ok ?? have you changed the thermostat ? does the temp rise quickly when in traffic?? any strange nosies coming from the engine bay??

Worth checking the thermostat. Rad fan switch and temp sender are in different places, so if it's faulty temp at sender could be high, and temp at switch low.

still could be a part blocked rad, when it's worming up work you way down the rad check it's the same temp all the way down. especaily around the switch.
