hi all.. totally new to this.. ive been driving the zafira for a few months with the engine check light on which caused loss of power but i continued using it as is until yesterday parked it up as normal and today i have no electrical power at all. central locking is dead, no ignition lights etc etc.. totally dead. connected another battery and than jump leads just to make sure of some power getting through but no luck.. any1 experienced anything similar at all or any1 have any knowledge on this? any ideas will be much appreciated.

fuses first place.

Then check engine earth lead

check voltage in battery if dead might be your battery has gone .

if battery totally dead you need big jump leads to start it some of these cheap ones do not work

if in AA RAC get them to get it started they have diagnostics on van so can tell you codes for fault

thanx.. changed the battery with 1 from a working car and connected heavy duty leads, checked all the fuses in fascia and the main leads from the battery.. but everything seems fine. is there a ignition relay which also operates the central locking or even the whole power to the car? if so, any idea where it is located?

Do the sidelights work ?
Ive heard that the ignition switch can go wrong (if my memory serves me) due to cheep design .
I will have a word at work today for you .

no side lights or anything..but some good news.. after kicking the bumper i opened the car and central locking worked, opened the door and the interior light came on.. (WOW.. power in the car) put the key in the ignition and gave it a turm and the ignition lights came on and than it fired up with the first turn of the key... totally confused as to how it went totally dead and all of a sudden has come back to life after a couple of days.. and oh yeah, the kick on the bumper was no hidden secret art and had no special affects, just wat any1 would do when they are peed off with sumthing.

i will still try investigating the cause so maybe it'll help any1 else in the future with a similar prob.

I would still get it on a diagnostic mate. The engine light on is something which needs looking at either way, and may lead to the cause of the power problem.

If you kicked the car and stuff started working it points to a bad earth as that ties in with a total loss of power (and the kick lol)
