Am I right in thinking the rear panels for Saloons dont fit the hatchback?

Ive acquired a Turbo plastic back panel (without the reflectors) and have lined up with my hatchback. Although height isnt the problem, the bottom sits slightly up and the holes dont line up.

Is it a matter of taking a section off the bottom, or are there ones particularly for the hatchback?

Pretty sure they are the same. I lifted one off a hatch and fitted it to a saloon ok.

ive read time and time again you need to make mods to a saloon one for it to fit a hatch

Not a straight swap - if you look at the two together then you'll see the differences. Basically the saloon one has a 10mm thickness the whole way through but the hatch has a tapered bottom edge . A hatch panel will fit a saloon (leaving a gap between the panel and bootlid at the bottom) but a saloon panel won't fit a hatch without cutting a load out of the depth at the base to make it sit flush to the tapered bootlid.
