...On a 95 calibra ecotec with the (I believe) F18 in it.

The gasket between the main gear case and the extension case has a chunk out of it near the top so the car is fine when standing but once the oil is up to temp and the car is running about oil gets chucked up and out the gap.

My question being - can the gearbox be split and eased apart enough to replace this gasket without all the insides falling to pieces! Or is it a gearbox off job to do? And anyone any ideas as to how this could have happened?

Ta. :Cool2:

the whole guts of the gearbox can be removed with the box in the car , you need to remove the linkage from the top of the box (4 11mm bolts ) take a couple of bolts off the front gearbox mounting & let the gearbox drop down slightly , then take the bolts out & the whole lot slides out the end.

So I can drop the box down and carefully change the gasket without all the gears dropping out? (Forgive me if thats a thick question).
